Juvenile or female Scarlet Honeyeater

Went to Carbrook Environmental Park today for the first time. Near RAMSAR site close to the southern Moreton Bay, south of Brisbane. Quiet time apart from these juvenile scarlett honeyeaters feasting on bottlebrush nectar.

Is it possible that it's a young scarlet honeyeater?

The pollen on Melaleucas/Callistemons is generally yellow (as around the base of the beak), but that red patch behind the eye has me confused.

Oh, and lovely shots, by the way!

Cheers

This is what a brown honeyeater looks like at my place in gympie, - they have that patch behind the eye.

Think you are right Tim. I thought they were juvenile Browns and the yellow was yet to fully emerge.

I love these little guys. You did well getting them as they just don't sit still for very long. They are lovely shots.
