Have been busy over Xmas so not much time for birding but happily now have a couple of days at the Coorong to catch up.
These Nankeen Kestrels are at the new property just South of Meningie,SA.
Just out side the back door have been four this morning feeding on crickets in the grasslands, look like young birds.
Magpies have just turned up and chased them away so the pecking order is clear there.
Nice bird to have just outside your door! Thanks for sharing

Great shots of those Kestrels, Rick! Nankeen Kestrels are such amazing and powerful birds...and I wish I could get photos like that.

Great photos Rick. Kestrels are such beautiful birds.
All great photos , but for me photo 4 is excellent.
Cheers,
Barney.
Excellent photos Rick ... wonderful having that habitat right at the back door. I wonder what other raptors you will see there.
Beautiful series of photos. What great birds to have so close and handy.
thank you for sharing!
Happy Birding!

Thanks all.
WD, so far have seen
Nankeen Kestrel
Brown Falcon
Brown Goshawk
Swamp Harrier?
Black-shouldered Kite.
Which is pretty amazing seeing the property is so sparsely vegetated, although the
Coorong National park is just over the road so probably some migration occuring.
Your open property might attract the Spotted Harrier. It would roost & nest in the nearby mallee, Rick.
I'm a bit jealous of you having these just outside the back door, though they're not too hard to find in the suburbs here, either. I was just reading through the thread about what you're doing down there and it's hugely impressive. Best of luck with it! That's an enviable list of raptors to have encountered already. I don't envy the work ahead of you on the property, mind!!
I really like #4 the most, too. Nice dynamic shot. Some quick eye contact while the bird is clearly going about its business with some intent, rather than just lazily soaring past. Having the grass & horizon in the frame really works.

I'd love to spend an hour or so with some of these birds working the area. Not a common bird around here at all but a couple of hours west of Brisbane they start to appear amongst the flat open country. All great shots but I like the bird with a bit of eye contact in #4.

Fantastic shots. Number 2 is my fave.
