It's in Newcastle, Peter, in the Hunter River mouth (well close to it anyway).

I know cause I grew up down there.

So are you a Novocastrian Darin, or just visiting?

Cheers

Nice shots.  What a wonderful time of year to be out with a camera.  Baby birds, particularly water birds, are out and about, and it isn't even Spring yet.

Nice collection, must have been a great outing, wish I was there.

I haven't seen a Snipe either, nor have I seen a Bronze Cuckoo.Haven't seen any baby birds yet around my place, but I think they are "at it" ?

(but, what's a --hairy meal---? Am I missing something here? If so, fill me in.)

Some cool birds there and good light.

M-L seeing that it's a Bronze Cuckoo the hairy meal he is after would be a caterpillar.

Cheers, Owen.

Owen that's right it's a caterpillar , the cuckoo hopped along the barb wire fence looking down , just like it reads word for word in the field guide.
M.L. Yes it was , I picked mum up from the hospital. The doctor said "she needs rest" So I threw mum in the car and went birding...she love it! 81 and still got a good eye we saw 39 birds in 3hrs including a grass bird . Yes Birdie, still learning about light but I think late in the afternoon helped me. Karen , spring is a great time of the year.  No Timmo worked in Newcastle after the earthquake in 89 and just looked around.
Hi Peter as you have meet me , finding birds is not the problem but I am  still having trouble with making photos less than 500 kb a lot of my photos are in Mbs . What is the simplest or easiest program or method to reduce the size, and as we all know size matters!

Darin, I use flickr, you will find all the different sizes just by clicking on. But I do have problems with the privacy settings there, don't know what I'm doing wrong, everyone can see mine, although I have them on a setting that only I should be able to see them. But for sizes Flickr is great.

I will be in Qld this weekend and then back in Gosford next weekend, now Newcastle is just up the road, so can you ask your mum to go for a drive next Friday and check if the Snipe is still there?

but seriously to adjust the size of .jpg files:

Plan A

Open the directory with the pic - R click the pic for drop-down menu - R click the 'Open with' menu option - R click 'Microsoft Office 20xx' menu option (if available, else go to Plan B)

this opens the pic in Microsoft Office (used to be called MS Picture Manager) - L click 'Edit pictures ...' menu option on the top toolbar (usually) - L click on the 'Compress pictures ...' menu option on the side toolbar (usually) - select the compression option that suits ' Don't compress' or 'Documents' or 'Web pages' or E-mail messages

Plan B

Use Flickr or Photobucker or http://www.ebizmba.com/articles/image-hosting-websites  lists the 15 most popular image sharing sites

When I used to use Picture Manager Darin I alway chose documents and it seemed to give a good looking result on here. Now I use photoshop and it takes a lot longer and gives me the shits most of the time lol

it depends largely on how big your pics are out of your camera I guess. What doi you use and what size are they ?  The good thing about using Flckr is that you have a ready collectionthere for sharing to any blog or other page that you want and you can upload at a fair resolution and just share at whatever size you wish to use at the time

Here is a link to my collection which is public anyway if you want to see what I mean

I have a Flicvkr Pro account which entitles me to have as many photos as I want . but you can have up to 200 I think for free. the pro account costs about$25 a year and has other advantages too.

Congrats on finding Horsefield Bronze Cuckoo. I didn't know a bird like that would be there. I live fairly close to there, so I'll go and take a look when I get a chance
