Taken underneath the willow tree in my back garden (Selby, Victoria). I know I've seen these before but not so close up. I was surprised it let me get close for fairly decent shots before it took off. It stayed and watched me for quite awhile. Perhaps, being in the shade, it was reluctant to go back out into the full sun. It's been so hot here for some time.
It has such lovely markings don't you think?
Bassian Thrush - very shy and very beautiful IMO.

Absolutely gorgeous photos kathiemt !
Love the colours.
Agree that it is a Bassian Thrush, apparently we don't get them here in Qld, will have to have a look when next we go down south.

I'm not sure how specific 'here' is meant to be, but Bassian Thrush are found in SEQ & the Wet Tropics of N.Qld.
In Lamington Nat.Park, you can find both Bassian & Russet-tailed Thrush at the same location & it can be very difficult to identify them in the dark rainforest.
Thanks for that SteveM.
Lamington National Park is now on my list of places to visit :)
It's been quite a few years since we've been to O'Reillys for a coffee.
Cheers

if you come to my place (Gembrook Vic) for a coffee, I have a few in my garden. Mostly on the horse poo-pile.

I've also seen them up at the Bunya Mountains at Easter last year.
Looking forward to finding a few more this Easter...

Thanks everyone. I didn't know anyone had replied. Didn't get any notification for some reason.
Yes, Bassian Thrush. I need to remember that.
