Elsie........the Canon 75-300 is considered to be one of the worst lens Canon have made, but that being said it can produce some nice pics.
I used to have the 90-300 non IS (the worst lens they made) but got some good shots with it.

The 40D is a great Camera, 10MP is fine.

As for Sony, they have had sensor stabilisation for a long time.
So have Pentax, there sensors are made by Sony.

You make your point well, was thinking the same about the technical stuff in M-L's thread but did not know how to discuss it. Well done and thanks. Your post shows some great shots. Don't think huge number of mega pixels would make much difference to my shots, you still need the steady hand and a little bit of talent.
