For some reason, a pair of Magpie-larks nest in the same tree as what yours is nesting in... the name of those trees I am not sure of but they're the ones with the long flat seed pods and I believe they are an introduced tree?

Hi Brandon. It's a silk tree, I know there are some that are native to australia but I'm not sure if this is one of the native tree's or not

Looks like a Jacaranda to me.

That is an impressive nest.

There are 3 trees which look like that. The Persian silk tree, the Jacaranda and the Poinciana (in the North) have the same type of leaf structure and flat seed pods. The Persian Silk has stringy fluffy flowers (thus the silk name) which are lovely pink/yellow or pink/white. The Jacaranda has masses of purple flowers and the Poinciana has masses of red flowers. Looks like a Jacaranda to me but if you are in QLD or NT it is more likely to be a Poinciana.

I guess there not silk tree's blush all the ones around here have red flowers so Poinciana  sounds about right

Wonderful photosyes

I haven't seen any of their chicks before. Interesting to see that they have the markings like the adult birds. Most of the other chicks have colours that make them blend in better.

Lovely shots cassie!

That is a shame for you (in some respects) as the Silk trees are stunning in bloom (not that poincianas aren't, or Jacarandas) and a peculiar thing I noticed about them is that the leaves sort of fold up at night. Like they close for the night. Look up on google for the pics of the flowers.

but a community street lined with flowering jacarandas or poincianas is a magnificent sight
