Magpie studies

A few years ago in W.A. I had pet magpies. Not caged, they were free to come and go. I used to feed them minced meat and they would come into the house and follow me to the fridge, chattering like a couple of children. Having got the meat I'd go to my seat on the lawn and feed them, one on each knee. When hungry they would come and tap on my front window.  They were ' camera shy '  so no  photo

Good shots of , W.A. Pies with white backs. I don't like to feed the magpies and kookaburras as they keep the small birds away. Each to there own, enjoy the moment. Darin

I read a few and it seems there are a lot of for and against. The area I lived in had market gardens which were heavily sprayed with herbicides, insecticides and it was not uncommon to see birds drop from the sky, dead. If by feeding the magpies I kept them away from the farms I prolonged their life. After about 3 months they stopped coming.  I enjoyed the close contact  and I'm sure the birds did too.

That's a very interesting perspective, roybat. Thanks.

Found one. Not the best of photos. Notice the young one keeping his distance.
