Went for a walk this afternoon at Aldinga Scrub and found quite a mixed bag.
Nothing to set the world on fire but was happy to find some Crescent Honeyeaters, had only seen them once before. Couple of Whistlers and surprising numbers of Eastern Spinebills none of which chose to pose in any decent manner. Think I saw a group of Little Crows but not convinced as yet. They sounded much the same as Little Ravens, slighty higher pitched call, but did have a strange cough like sound at times as described in P&K. OMG!!! I think I'm becoming obsessed !!!
(Oh, and found some cute little Peaceful Doves but very hard to get near.)
NIce shots as usual Rick. I like the Crescent Honeyeater and Eastern Spinebill best.
Thanks Tim, was really happy to see the Crescent, lovely little bird.
Yes I like the Cresent too and the Golden Whistler's also very handsome.
Nice focus on the Rufous Whistler through all those twigs!
This Aldinga Scrub of yours looks like a great spot although it looks like you could do with a drop or two of rain. The photograph of the Peaceful Dove shows how well it blends in with the background. Agree with Owl on the focus on the Rufous Whistler through all those twigs...4:40 am off to see what I can find.
Samford Valley Qld.
Reflex, Aldinga Scrub is probably the most valuable piece of remnant coastal vegetation within several hundred kilometers of Adelaide. It's under enormous pressure from encroaching suburbanization & it's attendant nasties such as weed invasion, human foot traffic, cats & dogs. In spite of efforts to save Aldinga Scrub from the perils of development the state government insisted on allowing developers to build houses nearly to the Scrub boundary. As far as I know there are no efforts to restore & protect the environmental values of the Scrub although Rick may have other information on this. Once Aldinga Scrub has been shamefully degraded it will probably be considered unworthy of saving leaving the government full licence to hand it to developers.
Certainly is a mixed bag.
Some lovley shots and looks like some of them didn't want to come out and play.
I like the fantail and the Cresent Honeyeater.
Great collection of photos ... thanks for posting!
Such beautiful photos.
Wow Rick what a great mixed bag of birds. Love the Golden Whistler such a gorgeous looking bird.
Gorgeous birds and lovely photos. Thanks for sharing Rick. I will be travelling back across country again some time in the next year I shall have to visit this Aldinga scrub!
Happy Birding!
