My Pee-Wees are onto their 3rd nest of the season (haven't actually hatched an egg for about 3 seasons) and I have just noticed they have a baby Koel.
They are pretty chuffed, proud and exhausted parents.
The nest is in our large Tallowood and very close to the house.
Will be watching its progress closely and as I love the Koel.
I am in Brisbane.
Wow, that's pretty late in the season for Koels, as the parents are usually starting to head north again around now.
Cheers

Yesterday the baby hopped out of the nest and explored a surrounding branch. Was in the nest this morning after a rather windy southerly change came through last night.
I just checked on him now and he is about 2 metres higher in the tree - don't think he will be sleeping in the nest tonight.
I heard a adult Koel closeby this morning. Hopefully one of his kind will assist him with his journey north.
Any chance of some photographs Ifwood?

I have taken some, but they are all over the file limit. I am not the best photographer, but will have a fiddle with the camera and see what I can do

Ooh, here's the baby on the nest from the other day
This afternoon he fell out of our tree and onto the neighbours garage. He has started to 'croak' and the Pee-Wees found him and tried to encourage him back to our tree. Its really high and he can't gain any height yet with his flying.
Hopefully he turns up ok in the morning....
Oh and thanks Peter for the photo help
So for the past few weeks the Pee-Wees have been feeding the baby cuckoo in neighbouring yards and trees. I could pretty much wake up every morning and pin point where it was.
Yesterday I found the Pee-Wees building a new nest in our tree. The baby popped in briefly into our Tallowood, squarked for food and then was gone.
Have not heard it today at all. Maybe it has finally gone on its long journey.
Strangely though the Pee-Wees are just about finished building their new next - bit late for nesting at this time of year!
