That is a spotted pardalote. When you ask for a bird id it is good to give more info, specially location.
Thanks Greg, It is in an urban setting in Geelong. The spotted pardalote turned up about 4 months ago. Appreciate your help, Simon.
Did someone start building foundation work nearby about then?
I started hearing them around my place in Brissie about 6 months back, when my neighbour started building a new house.
They nest in holes dug deep into the side of earthen banks, so they often turn up when soil banks are exposed as part of foundation preparation.
My parents had some turn up almost immediately after the post holes were dug for their new deck.
Cheers

He looks like a "Fabio" or a "Paul" to me Sorry, not what you meant. Yes, definitely a male Spotted Pardalote. We have a group of three, one male & two females who now frequently land in our nectarine tree. We're on quite a steep hill so I think it just makes a good perch for them between Eucalypt clumps. Not into birds? Yet. Famous last words once you start noticing one....

I saw the first Spotted Pardalotes for this year at my place today. Right outside my window, but couldn't go outside to take photos or follow them, IT RAINED , all day. I hate rain!!!! So does my camera
