Suddenly realised that I had not been looking at the different coloured caps on Nankeen Kestrels until this lovely male posed at Bowra Wildlife Conservancy in Qld recently.
I then found that I had another picture of a pair from Warren in NSW which shows that difference quite nicely... male with a grey cap and female with rufous (or should I say nankeen) cap.
Another bird I've yet to see. Always nice to get comparison, boys vs girls.
Dale Huonville, Tasmania
I hope you get to the mainland sometime, Dale. These raptors are quite common but a joy to see.
You always seem to teach me Sue. I had not realised the males had a grey cap. Again some amazing shots
Thanks, Dev. I thought it worth pointing out as I also had failed to take note of the cap colour until that male posed for me at Bowra. I love learning something new.
I didn't know that either - good hint, thanks :-)
