I went back to the same area and caught this Kestrel on the same pole exactly as I got the Grey Goshawk on last week!
The last shot was the best I could do after he flew , but at least it gives some idea of the environment he was in.... later I found some whistling kites having a 'field day" over behind him here and discovered that the attraction was the tractor once again turning the remains of the cane mulch and stirring up the free lunches for BOPs
Just adding this to see if my signature comes up as that is what i rely on for location

These are stunning, the longer I look at them, the sharper they get. (that could be my eyes though, LOL)
I have no luck taking photos of BOP, except for some Black-shouldered Kites. Did you take those from the car, or did you walk up? There is a Brown Falcon I often drive past, but the second he spots me, he is off. I can't take photos from the car, those wind shields get in the way.
M-L
M-L I actually started in the car with the pole shots, then thought stuff this I am going to see how far he will let me go. I got to within touching distance of the pole! I have cropped fairly largely though as it was a really ugly pole to start with and luckily the shot was good enough to allow an acceptable level of cropping without losing too much. I cant get any closer to them in the fields though, ....well I could but would have to drive across the cane field .... farmer might have somethign to say about that

You are gonna hate me Adrienne when I tell you that only this morning while I was walking my dogs at the quarries I could walk up to 7m from a male kestrel sitting at waist level on a bridge railing. I think he and his mate have gotten used to me over the last six or so months. I will post some head/shoulders portrait in the near future. He was so beautiful and even better I caught them mating twice!
Nice!

They look great on here. Much sharper than fb
Thanks everyone and Akos..... I could never hate you for showing us pics like you do, your Kestrels were stunning and without your talent at catching them we would never get to see them in such detail and at their best , so thanks for that
