My brother took this video recording of this bird singing in a tree, here in Tenterfield, NSW. Haven't heard this bird call for a very long time. I'm thinking it is a Grey Butcherbird but can't be certain. The bird in question was about the size of a 3/4 grown Magpie Lark (Pee Wee), had an all black head and entirely white underside starting from the throat area. It hung around my side of town (south west) for about 4 days and has since disappeared.
Grey Butcherbird for me. It sounds like it could be young.
Thanks Owl of Kedumba. Its exciting to know the possibility Grey Butcherbirds are coming back to this area, or are in the area somewhere. I still reckon it was a Grey Butcherbird myself. It had that Butcherbird sound to it's voice. I'm guessing that because it was so young it may have got lost somehow, and got separated from it's parents. Probably chased by something, like a bird of prey. I've seen it happen before with a Pied Butcherbird juvenile.
I'm at Tenterfield, NSW. (Formerly known as "Hyperbirds".)
