Have started building a nest box for Rosella's
Question—in the plans section it indicates 70mm opening further on it talks of a 80-90mm holesaw to make the opening.
Googled Rosella nest boxes & the average seems to be 65-70mm?
Any ideas on best size? 80-90 seems to me to be too large for the bird.
Also what is the thinking on the dowel needed—not needed?
TIA ad.
Are you talking about a dowel for landing aussiedavid? I don't think rosellas need one. I just drill some holes beneath the opening so the birds have something to grip their claws onto. If you have doubts about opening size, you could put a balsa or light wood cover over the hole with a small opening size and the birds will widen it to suit themselves.
Thanks Night Parrot,
Yes landing. Saw one neat idea while browsing for sizes someone had glued the drop out below the hole. They are small birds and the box is pine, got 'till the weekend if any more ideas come in before I'm ready to cut the hole, if not think I'll go 70ish . david
