Wild weather in South East Queensland today (Sunday 27th Jan). Just managed to capture a pic of this bird as it flew in front of the neighbours trees (maybe trying to escape the wind).
Can anyone identiy it? If not, do I have the naming rights?

It looks like one of those wooden whirly-gig type birds to me, if it is, you may name it anything you like! Maybe someone else may have a different idea!

Hard to tell as it is Flying fast
Could be a Double breasted mattress thrusher or even a
Migratory Brown booby bed banger.
With that's storm off the east coast anything can show up.
May be some else is better with ID.

Thanks QYN55. I must admit my first thought was the same, and my second and third thoughts were somewhat similar. It was my fourth and ninth thoughts that caused me to doubt and put out this call for help.
Darinnightowl I can't help but feel you made those names up. My research reveals that "matress thrusher" and "bed bangers" do not exist in the bird world. Furthermore I had to beat a hasty exist from my google search when confronted with some of the sites researching those names brought up.
QYN if the bird remains unidentified I will acknowledge your contribution by trying to include your name in the name I give the bird - no promises though. I am thinking something like (in the Latin) "qynwhirlygigthingious lookslikious" or, for those who prefer the english "Looks like a whirly gig thing"
Thank you both for your help though darinnightowl I am inclined to think you were trying to throw us all off track.

I looked at this photo yesterday and had agreed with Alison that this is just a flat, fake made up bird that people make as decorations.
Hehe, I think Darinnightowl was just joking with those names

Cattle Grazing, I hope you can read this because if you can it'll mean you're relatively high & dry above the flood. Good luck. Ms Woko & I are thinking of you & yours.
That is very gracious of you to share your naming rights Cattle Grazing and I thank you for posting this bird for id - it has provided a chance for me to get into the "action" on this part of the forum. Like Woko (& Mrs) I hope you are as high and dry as your humour - if so I think you will be very safe which is a good thing! Cheers ~~ Alison

Thank you Woko & QYN55. Yes Mrs Cattle Grazing and I are high and dry and have power - unlike my 95 year old dad and my bro who live about a km away and have not had power since Sunday lunch time.
For us it was the wind that (forgive the pun) blew us away. We have 4 large trees on a block of 830 sq mtrs. The power of the wind was just awesome and scary. Fortunately we just ended up with branches down and no lasting damage.
It did cause us to wonder though where the birds go in such weather. It is hard to imagine them hanging onto branches in such a howling gale. Can they?
Thanks again for your kind thoughts.

One day when the weather is foul I'm going to stick my head into some really dense shrub thickets to see what sort of reception I get, if any, from the local bird population. I'm betting it'll be a case of a bird in the bush is worth heaps more than two in the hand.
Thanks , stuck inside with all this rain, just a bit of fun to be had by all. May be not...Oops google seach.

I therefore assume very small cows

lol woko, darinnightowl, and pacman.
Woko let us know how you get on. Of course if the weather is fowl you are sure to see bird life.
darinnightowl yes my wife and I had a good laugh at your comment from the first words about it flying fast.
pacman with all the rain the grass is so long I haven't seen any cows,,,,,perhaps after I mow.
