Hi everyone
Tonight I saw a fairy-wren which I hadn't seen before and wondered if anyone could identify it for me.
We have two families of the blue fairy-wrens that Holly uses as her avatar, so I'm familiar with their shape.
This bird tonight is completely black, with red wings. I saw it twice while I was feeding the horses and was surprised how close I was to it. Only about five meters away both times, and it sat and watched me. Naturally didn't have the camera with me - darn!
I've had a look on the birdfinder, the closest to it is the white-winged fairy-wren as the red colour on my bird is on the wings.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Chris
Sounds like a Red Backed Fairy Wren, but does not have red wings, where abouts are you? Red Winged Fairy Wren would have blue as well, rather than black.

We're in Victoria Point, a bayside suburb of Brisbane.
I've googled the Red Back Fairy Wren and found some photos - Definitely is the one I saw tonight.
Camera will be with me tomorrow - must get a photo of this fellow
Thanks very much for your help Dale.
Cheers
Chris
Eventually I'll learn the difference between wings and backs on a bird sitting on a branch watching me
