It's been a while since I posted some pics here as we moved and only manged to get the internet on this week. Went up to Hervey Bay QLD camping for a week and met up with the Hervey Bay Birdwatchers. John Knight runs the club and he showed me a few locations. Because of him I managed to get 2 new species for the year. The first was the Nankeen Night-Heron. This has been on my wish list for a while now and was so excited to see it and get some nice photos of it.
The next bird, we went out to a property that had dried up to see if there had been any water run in from the rain last week. Here we discovered the Brown Songlark. A plain looking bird but their song sounds like an 80's digital effect. If you haven't heard one I suggest having a listen. Not great photos but he was very shy and kept hiding in the grass.
The last is just a plain Brush Cuckoo which I found at Gympie behind the In-Laws place. I could hear him but took me a while to find him. He was high in a tree so the photos again arn't that great. All in all, 3 new birds for the year.
Wow nice work! This is making me jealous since I haven't seen any of those, although I've certainly had my share of new birds for the year

Welcome back to the internet. I'm very jealous of your Nankeen Night-Heron those are great shots. Actually all three would have been ticks for me as well.

Thanks Reflex & Birdy. It's funny you know, I hadn't seen a NNH at all since I started getting into birding in August 2014. Then while I was away I saw 3 in 2 days in 2 different locations. The others were not as photogenic though and preferred to hide in the branches.
Nice photos and birds. That would be 3 new species for me that I am yet to encounter and photograph. ;-)

Nice work devster - all new species for me too. You did well getting those songlark shots through all that grass.
Congrats Devster,
new birds are very satisfying :)

Thanks TBL, WD & Shorty.
True Dat Shorty. The Songlark we chased around for about half an hour before I managed to see him close enough for a shot. Even then as WD said, I was lucky to get a few shots that wern't blurry through the long grass.
The Brush Cuckoo was calling and calling and again it took me about half an hour before I finally manged to locate him. Turns out there were two calling at different times. As I got close to one the other would call nearby. I thought it had just flown to the other spot. Cheeky Buggers.
