Northern NSW Birding Spots?

Hi gang.

I will be driving from the Gold Coast to Byron Bay next week and was wondering if anybody knew of some good places along the coast to stop and look for birds (any hot spots etc).

Any details about where to find interesting birds would be fantastic.

Cheers all

Hi Dave, Although ive never been there myself, the Border Ranges and Lamington national parks are meant to be some of the best birding locations in the whole country. Would be well worth the little detour i reckon.

Haha. I'm one step ahead of you Snail!

I'm planning to go to Lamington for two days, but I will be visiting family down in Byron Bay, so just wondered if there were any places worth stopping on the way.

Hi Dave, how was Lamington? Did you see and/or hear Rufous Scrub-bird?

Hi Snail

No - no Rufous Scrub Bird - I'm in O'Reileys guesthouse as we speak! I didn't venture far enough into the more temporate forest for the Scrub Bird or Olive Whistler. It required a 6-7hr return hike just for the chance to see (more likely hear) one. Lots of Logrunners, Bowerbirds, Fruit-Doves, Riflebirds, Pigeons and other rainforest specialties. Has been a good few days!
