A wonderful time out on the Chiltern Trail in Sydney on Monday as there were many honeyeater varieties around including a Regent Honeyeater (attended by numerous Sydney birders!). Scarlet, Yellow-Tufted, Yellow-Faced and Fouscous Honeyeaters amongst the numerous Eastern Spinebills. Is this a Brown-Headed Honeyeater or something else? Sorry for the quality but could not take a decent photo no matter what! A beautiful Square-Tailed Kite flew over me and I still did not manage to get his head in sharp focus. Any help appreciated Sue
Sounds like a great day birding Sue.
I think your right that it is a Brown Headed Honeyeater.
I agree.
Sure is. Lorne
Thank you everyone for the help It was a bit confusing at the time as there were 3 or 4 types of honeyeater in the same tree, the light was wrong and I was trying to follow the one Regent Honeyeater. Did not even realise this little fellow was there until looking through the photos afterwards.I hope to do better on a revisit. Sue
Sue - congrats on the Brown-headed HE; you have not been clear if you did sight the Regent HE
(do you realise how jealous 1 will be if you have)
Peter
Sue, did you sight the Regent at the Chiltern road end of the Chiltern track?

Yes I did see one Regent Honeyeater (my first) which made the trip worthwhile. It was maybe 500 metres in from the Chiltern road end of the track.
Plenty of people looking for them at present. My thanks to BabyBirdWatcher who advised me that he saw 3 Regents in that area on the weekend prompting my visit. Sue
Thanks, Sue. I will see what the weather is for the weekend and maybe plan a trip up there.

Peter
Just an update on the Chiltern Trail... three Regent Honeyeaters present at about 3pm today. Perhaps after the Queensland weekend?
Sue
Sue, thanks for thinking of me, I am driving back to Qld this weekend, so will have to consider next weekend
Peter
Hi Sue,
It's great to hear that you went up and saw them. There are lots of great birds up at Chiltern Trail, Ssmetimes there are glossy black cockatoos and there is a powerful owl currently near the trail.
