For Sydneyites, I was looking at some older posts about places that people suggest to go, to see birds, and one mentioned Otford, catching the train.
Does anyone know this area? I am wondering if it is easy to find the bushland or birding area from the train station.
Thanks!
I have not been to Otford, closest i have been is to Waterfall station to get to the walking tracks into Heathcote NP at the northern end of Warabin street. Not many birds until i got about half an hour down the track and i found it very steep in places and not a very obvious track in others.
Im more familar with birding from train stations on the northern line, and Mt Kuringai, Berowa, Cowan stations are good for access to tracks into Mt Kuringai NP and Berowa valley NPs. Also Cheltenham and Thornleigh stations for access to Lane Cove NP, and down to Berowa valley on the west of Thornleigh station. Look them up in http://www.wildwalks.com/ as they have many walks starting/ending at stations and give directions from the station to the start of the track.
That's great thankyou. And thanks for the link, extremely useful. You seem to have know a lot of the good places.
