Owls of Kedumba

Went down to the Kedumba Valley last week, a magical place for me. Over the 2 days I counted a total of 64 birds (54 where we camped) including one unidentified raptor, 2 reptiles (not including skinks), 6 amphibians and 9 mammals (3 introduced). There are normally 3 species of owl (Boobook, Sooty and Powerful). However I came at a different time of year and only saw/heard the Boobooks. But I did record an Australian Owlet-nightjar for the first time since I've been there.

The real highlight was the Boobooks as they were very close to the track. The parents have done well raising 2 healthy chicks. Here's a few of the photo's I took (there's many more!)

Here's a few before my camera died - sadly on the first day!

Fantastic shots mate. The immature booboks are tops. Is this the road down from the hospital where we talked about in our e-mails?

Thanks Canonguy

The Boobooks were on an adjoining road, to the west of the hospital road. We came up the hospital road (Kedumba Pass) on the second day.

We heard 2 Boobooks during the night which may have been the same pair.
