Parent Birds Protecting Two Chicks ID?

Hi bird lovers, these birds were on the ground beside a walking path outside Brisbane's Dental School/University. The parent birds were giving warning sounds like a deep throat rumble breathy sound. What are they?

Looks like a Bush stone-curlew also known as a Bush Thick-knee. Nice sighting, apparently often seen in situations as you describe.

The other likely suspect is the Beach Stone-Curlew, but lack of dominant wing marking leans me toward the Bush Stone-Curlew, as I said happy to be wrong, I'm still learning to!

Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Definitely a bush stone curlew. There not a very common bird. And are protective of there nest. They also have a very odd call, a little creepy if you don’t know what they are.

Used to here them here, but since there been more people around, they’ve seemed to have left.

Yep - definitely a bush stone-curlew.

I think whether they are common depends very much on where you are... I just spent 2 weeks on a mountain bike tour around Cairns area, camping at different spots every night and I heard these guys calling every single night.

They are also relatively common around Brisbane CBD (I've seen them in Fortitude Valley, near the Mater hospital, behind the Gabba and other places), but seemingly less common in the suburbs.
