I was about to drive into my garage yesterday afternoon, when I spotted something sticking out of the Fairy Martin nest just above my front door. I had seen the little fairy martins coming and going - there's only one nest on my house, as opposed to the 8-10 on my neighbour's - as I wander around, but hadn't really put much thought behind it.
Anyway, turns out it was a tiny face peeking out.
Might have to take a closer look at the horde of martins at the neighbour's place to see if they have babies hatching too. I think they were a bit earlier in finishing their nests than my ones were.
That is just waaaay too gorgeous windshear!

Congratulations, too, to your & your neighbour for preserving these nests, windshear.
That nest is like a work of art with the different coloured layers. It looks like it is made from clay so you might be able to fire it.
Yeah, it is very colourful and intricate. I wonder just how many beakfuls of mud went into that little house. :)
Thanks guys. I couldn't bear to destroy something they spent countless hours building. Just not in my 'nature'. hehe.
Discovered to my delight today that the little guys appear to be flying! Yayyyy!!!
Spent quite a while sitting in a chair watching them come and go. Counted four at any given time going in and out. Not sure just how many babies / adults. In honour of that, here are some more photos.
There were so many fairy martins swishing around in the skies over my house today. They seem quite excited about it.
