Pied Cormorant Caught a Fish

This pied cormorant had caught a fish in the parramatta river, but the ferry has heading straight for him. So he had to skedaddle out of the way and not lose his lunch.

Totally agree with you there windshear. I mentioned today how much I enjoyed Rick's spoonbill photos. It is great to see birds in action, even better when you can capture it and share that experience with all us bird lovers. Keep sharing !!smiley

Nice shots WhistlingDuck. Can even see the detail in the fish. Some sort of saltwater cafish I think.

Love themheart Was he being chased by other birds? Looks as if he is taking off and landing again? The fish might have been a bit heavy.Great sequence.

Thanks for the comments

Hi Rick - it looks like at catfish, but im not up on my fish species to identify it. Certainly a fair sized catch for the cormorant he would have had a full stomach after that.

Hi Araminta - there were no other birds around. He had caught the fish, then the River Cat ferry was bearing down on him so he had to get out of the way. He was sort half flying and half running/hopping across the surface of the water.

Great catch, for both of you . You can almost feel the effort in these shots, to lift that waterlogged body up for a bit of urgent wing assisted speed. Lovely series WD

Almost all sorted WD. Camera back & lens should be here by Thursday. Apparently I have been uncharacteristically grumpy, can't say I agree (lol), so there may be more than one happy dance later in the week.
