Have been residing up at Mount Piddington for the past three weeks which is very rich with bird life but have noted something unusual.
Back in Sydney my local Pied Currawongs have four distinct calls common among the flock in a wide variety of suburbs in the northern districts.
Here at Mount Piddington, the local Pied Currawong's have yet to use one of the common calls used by the Sydney flocks. The birds here have entirely different calls...
Only two basic calls have been heard by the local Pied Currawong community to date, not related to the Sydney calls.
So I wonder if the calls vary according to distance among flocks?
The only call in common is "Currawong", the ones here seem to use a "whoop whoop" at the end of chatter or the basic "Currawong"call...
