Justine I think this is a young House Sparrow. If so it needs to be humanely managed accordingly since the House Sparrow aggressively competes with a number of Australian bird species. But delay action until it’s positively identified as it would be a shame to euthanize a species on the brink of extinction.
By the way it’s helpful in identifying birds if you provide a location as not all bird species are spread across the length & breadth of Australia. In fact, few are. A habitat description is helpful, too.
