Powerful Owl (juvenile) catches and eats small fish.

You may recall the P_owl family consisting of a mother and two juveniles has returned to the mangrove swamp.

Just on dark the two young ones often fly to low branches overhanging the creek and stare intently at the water.

We thought that they might be about to bathe as the mother is often wet in the morning.

We were very surprised when one flew down onto the mangrove roots (we have never seen one on the ground before) and caught and ate a small fish.

As far as we can tell, P_owls are only supposed to eat arboreal species and we can't find any mention of them ever eating fish.

Perhaps some others on this forum might have seen something simliar?

Cheers,

Antonia

I guess if  you spend enough time living in the mangroves, looking in the water for something to eat might seem like a good idea. smiley
