Protective Magpies

This is a black and white picture of one female magpie that I used to feed. She is extremely protective over her food and her territory. Her family and another magpie family fight often in my backyard and sometimes the fights can get quite dangerous.

Nice photo TheBirdLover ..... captures a sense of the birds "attitude".

Thanks WhistlingDuck...She actually does have quite an "attitude" (as she is a bossy little bird who loves her food).

I wonder if that fighting you refer to BirdLover is in fact part of social behaviour whereby Magpies establish dominance with their family group.
