Kangaroos and other animals including birds are starving to death due to prolonged dry conditions, no doubt man made climate change is behind this tragedy, when are we going to replace all the trees that were cut down due to wrong farming practices, do we let ignorance and indifference continue to rule and cause the desertification of Australia.
I saw the report in the media about kangaroos dying, what a ridiculous report. Roos are always dying and being born, if there isn't enough feed they will die or move away, when times are good their numbers breed up. I'm sure there was a vested interest behind the reports, hunters or graziers or someone trying to push an agenda.
Australia is subject to a boom & bust environmental regime. Kangaroos reflect this. Numbers are up with rain & good feed, down with lack of rain & dust.
Whether the current drought is due to climate change or to normal fluctuations can't be definitely established (as far as I know) due to the huge number of variables involved. However, the severe weather events to which Australia has been subjected in recent years certainly fit the climate change modelling of quite some years ago now.
The stance of climate change denial, which seems to be an embedded principle in the federal government's Direct Action programme, is an extremely radical position for anybody to take in my opinion given that it's our planet which is at risk. A true conservative would surely adopt the cautionary principle & ensure that solid action is taken to reduce carbon dioxide & other Earth-heating gases, particularly when our planet is on the verge of suffering from huge methane emissions from the warming permafrost in the northern hemisphere. To place profits, jobs & lifestyles ahead of Earth's well being on which we all depend for our profits, jobs & lifestyles is extreme ratbaggery in my opinion.
Doublebar, I share your angst.
