Had a chance to visit Kangaroo Island last week, first time for ten years and although the weather was atrocious still managed a few birds, though no Whipbird. Visited the Raptor Domain exhibition near Seal Bay, was magic to be so close to some of the birds of prey. They had -
Australian Hobby
White bellied Sea eagle
Black Breasted Buzzard
Barking Owl
Wedge tailed Eagle
Eastern Barn Owl
as well a couple of Blue winged Kookaburra.
The exhibition was very informative and even got to stroke the feathers of the Barn Owl which was amazing, just the softest thing imaginable.
Most of the birds have either been injured or born in captivity and can't be returned to the wild.
Not usually a fan of these things but they seem to be doing good work and was great to be so close.

Magnificent shots!
Looks like a place to put on my bucket list.
My fav is the Blue-Winged Kookaburra, spectaculat flight shot!
But all are fantastic, do love the Sea Eagle as well.
Great shots! really lovely
Wow! Some fantastic shots here. I know they are captive birds but the photograph opportunities these sorts of places offer are just endless.
Whilst I'm writing it's a good opportunity to let other readers know about and offer my congratulations for having one of your photographs accepted as a finalist in the 2015 ANZANG, portrait section. Quite an accomplishment, well done!

Congrats Rick, what an honour.
Would love to see the photo that was selected.
Well done, Rick. I admire your work.
Out of curiosity, do the staff at Raptor Domain talk about the need to preserve habitat for their birds?
Woko,
Yes very much so, try to explain to the punters the importance of habitat corridors etc but
at the end of the day they have a show to put on and do the best they can.
Seemed to be a very dedicated group of youg people involved and wish them well.
Rick - great pics,
you know that none of those can count as ticks on your list
particularly that out-of-range Blue-winged Kookaburra
Peter
Thanks, Rick. It's great that they're educating as well as entertaining.
birds in captivity??
this place should be shut down for animal cruelty.
will someone please think of the birds.
Thanks all for your comments.
Yes Peter, I am unfortunately aware there are no ticks involved
zosterops, I fully expect to be excommunicated and banished
Great photos Rick.
