Raptor IDs

Hi everyone,

Could anyone help with some raptor IDs? These were all taken in Darwin in early August.

I am wondering if they are: 1. Black Falcon, 2. Brown Falcon (immature) and 3. Square-tailed Kite (based on the light coloured wing patch), or Whistling Kite.

Thanks,

Hi Annas, I can't tell/won't make a call on what number 1 is. But number 2 is a Brown Falcon and 3 is a Whistlling Kite

I'd say that #1 might be a Swamp Harrier. And I agree with Babybirdwatcher for the other twosmiley

Hard to make No 1 out. Agree with other two. LJ

I don't gamble and therefore would not put any money on it but I think #1 Black Kite and agree with #2 & #3

Thanks everyone. I think there's a light cheek patch on #1 in another (out of focus) photo, so it might be a brown falcon too. Or it might be a blade of grass.....

Annas - if you got a Black Kite pic on the same day I suggest that you compare to this bird for general colour, shape, etc - if you didn't get a Black Kite pic on the same day ????
