Rufous Whistler

Hi I photographed this bird in the Boolarra State Forest, Gippsland Victoria.  I am using my Nikon 3200 and Sigma lens 150-500mm.  I now use a tripod all the time due to arthritis in the shoulders, the joys of getting old.

Rozkidd, the downside is arthritic shoulders. The upside is a great photo of the Rufous Whistler using your tripod, not to mention your camera.

What a lovely photo, rozkidd! You have captured the Rufous Whistler's quizzical and amused look.

It's a shame about your arthritis, but at least you can still take photos and go birding! Thanks for sharing such a nice picture.

Woko and the Birdlover thanks for your kind comments, I just find with the tripod I can't respond as quickly as I could when I didn't need to use a tripod.

Great shot Rozkidd. I pretty much use a tripod all the time now and find it helps with the keeper rate.

Lovely photo, you've captured the colour beautifully! I've been think a lot recently about using a tripod when I go out birding, at the moment I get lots of photos but the magority are blurry. I think I'll have to give it a go!

Thanks for sharing, and inspiring me to try something new!

I set up the tripod and camera before I leave the car and carry the whole lot over my shoulder with the big lens behind my neck.  In spite of the arthritis this is comfortable and I can take a photograph fairly quickly.  At first I didn't realize that the Optical Stabilizer on the Sigma Lens must be turned of.  I am looking forward to your "tripod" photos Elsie.

At least 4-5 metres, I had stopped and positioned the camera at a dried water course as there were a lot of birds there.  This bird just "posed" for the camera, rarely happens but it is great when it does.

I try anything to ensure I can continue to walk and take photos of birds.  I take hundreds of photos and

very few are OK.  Thanks for all your nice comments.  Ro

I agree, great shot rozkidd. I have even started to take the tripod out more lately even though I don't have arthritis (anymore). Like Reflex said, it helps to increase the keeper rate, especially in dark areas where these little guys like to hide.
