Decided to pay a visit to my pet wetlands at Wynnum today. Despite the wind, I discovered a family of Rufous Whistlers - a bird I haven't see very much. They were very friendly.

Super work getting lovely shots of male and female. Such beautiful birds.
The females as well as the males have very attractive colors.
Thanks WD!
Just an FYI - I forgot to label them. Only the second photo is a female, the last three are an immature.
But yes, they are all beautiful in their own way.
Here's a bit of a better look at the female's colouring.
Thanks windshear ... did they entertain you with song?
Yeah, they were quite cheerfully whistling away. They certainly live up to their name!
Thanks for the lovely photos I only get the Golden Whistlers in my garden, and they are always high up in the trees
I love the fact that you post more than one photo, sometimes forums restrict members to post less. But for me, the more the better, I love looking at all of them

Thanks M-L! I'm never quite sure where to draw the line between, so I err on the side of more.
Yes, Golden Whistlers do like to hide up high. These were much more accomodating, hanging around in the low branches.
Gorgeous photos , just look at third one flying right towards you . Fantastic!!!!!!!! I also love the way they look sometimes like their heads are too big in relation to the size of their bodies like in photo 7 . They are great birds to photograph as they let you follow them not going to far ahead of you and then rest for a while to whistle a little tune.
Kerry - Perth, Western Australia.
Thanks. :) This little group spent about 20 minutes flitting back and forth between the trees on a little peninsula of land, so I could largely stay in the one spot and wait for them to show up on a convenient branch. :)
They only really left when some honeyeaters showed up and told em to push off. (And then the honeyeaters left as well)
