Scarlet Honeyeaters at Mt. Cotton

Mt. Cotton shopping centre isn't very big, but they have planted many grevilleas around the edges, and yesterday there were more scarlet honeyeaters there than I have ever seen before, many of them just young birds too.  Sorry, these are not great pics.  Little blighters kept hiding or flying off, so took as many as we could of whatever we could get (2 cameras at work).

It's great that some shopping centres do this now. Nice photos, I love the last one, gorgeous with those wings spread .

Thanks everyone.  I wish I could get some pics of them in decent light.  I always seem to be under them, aiming up into the light.

I can't believe you saw anything so beautiful in a shopping centre carpark!!!!  I would kill to catch these beautiful little birds... still Karen... I guess we are lucky up here to have the Osprey hanging out in our major shopping centre and fisihning in the canals that run underneath it.

Thanks Birdie.  I guess it is thanks to the centre management.  They are under a lot of pressure to keep the area wild life friendly, and planted a huge number of grevillea which is where I see these sweeties.  I wish the housing developers would stop destroying what is an ancient forest once abounding with wild life, now falling to the bulldozers in too many places.

Well done Karen, you must have been thrilled to not only see these beauties but to actually have a camera with you as well, every time now that you are out and about and you here their call, you will drop everything and go in pursuit, I find them addictive.

The shopping centre management is certainly heading in the right direction. The next step is to plant the original species which were removed to build the shopping centre or whatever structure(s) came before the shopping centre.
