Sea birds South East Tasmania

Hi all, added the first to a post in best photos, and have had a suggestion of Brown Skua, is within range, but am unsure. A mates phone photo (different boat) posted with permission.

The second is in the same area, could be a juvenile Kelp Gull, but the beak looks a bight light (not solid enough), maybe just the angle. Poor photo, but maybe someone has an idea. There were Kelp and Pacific Gulls at the same spot.

I reckon the first is a Juv. Pacific Gull and I agree on Juv. Kelp Gull for second

The beak doesnt look right for Pacific Gull to me, otherwise I would agree with you. I agree that the second one is a Kelp Gull.

Thanks guys, the beaks of juvenile Kelp and Pacific gulls can be fairly similar, not until they mature is the red "lipstick" on both upper and lower evident with Pacific, while Kelp only have some red on the lower.

I think the beak just looks a bit off because of the angle and the mouth is open, also it is not well defined against the fishing reel. Plumage is exact match for juv Pacific Gull.
