A big weekend as I went on the Sydney Pelagic Trip on Saturday and then the Port Stephens Pelagic Trip on Sunday.
I will have many new birds form the trips but have to sort the pics first - about 100 pics each day. rough seas so many will be deleted as out of focus or missed the bird.
I thought that I should share 2 pics of an adult Shy Albatross
Great Shots Peter, we have thought of going on one of these ourselves. For us to get one great shot of an albtross like yours would be grand.
Was it fun? We hope you didnt get sea sick. Did you see as many birds as you hoped and were there many on the boat? Did you have to book way in advance? Was it an early start?
Sorry for all the questions. I hope you got some more really great shots and we cant wait to see them.
Great shots Peter ... how I envy anyone who is able to go on a Pelagic trip ..... I get so seasick I would be terrified to go I think. Just in time for the bird of the week theme too.... seabirds!!!!
Will keep an eye out for your shots to come .... I didnt realise but i guess shy is the namje of the Albatross and not a description? Sorry too lazy to look up the field guide lol

Good photos Peter, the sea looks terrible judging from your first photo.

I just re-read my first post - edit: I got about 1000 pics each day

Was it fun? - yes, I have booked for the Sydney Nov trip, I will be in Qld on the Port Stephens Nov trip date and it is fully booked
We hope you didnt get sea sick. - I have always had good sea legs, although after we stopped and I was taking pics I started to feel quesy after about 60+ mins, then the penny dropped - stop looking through a camera lens for 5 mins, all good again
Did you see as many birds as you hoped and were there many on the boat? - yes, I only list the species when I get an identifiable pic (some of the very serious briders think that I am crazy - pot & kettle methinks), I am so far at 7 confirmed species + 1 to confirm + 1 that needs more review from me, 5 of the 7 are lifers for me, 44 on Sydney trip on a larger catamaran and 14 on the Port Stephens trip on a smaller single hull
Did you have to book way in advance? no, I was lucky for both, but as i say above Port Stephens is booked out next month
Was it an early start? was to be 6.45am for both but due to the weather Sydney was delayed to 9am, I am currently in Gosford and Sydney was about 1 hr 15 away, Port Stepens was about 2 hrs 15 mins away - that was a very early start and Sydney was about 1 hr 15 mins awayandand
Birdie
yes species name is Shy Albatross, but that does not reflect their nature
Shane
yes, interesting seas
here are 2 pics of a Cape Petrel (I just searched for this as you know I like pied birds, it is not 1 of the 7 species above)
and 1 pic of a Flesh-footed Shearwater (1 of the 7)
oh, and read your guide/s before you go as most upper wing pics of shearwaters are no good as the identifying marks are on the underwing
Peter
Very informative reply Peter..... thank you ... I would go nuts with 1000 pics of that sort ... agonising over which was the best one to keep lol
