Last year I photographed local birds and some of them were sick looking. One had split top beak, one had short beak and at least 3 in the flock were having infected beak. That is why wild birds should never be fed by people to prevent the spread.

Totally correct, burchan. Beak & feather disease isn't the only reason birds shouldn't be artificially fed. Artificial feeding takes birds away from performing their natural functions in ecosystems whether that's spreading seeds, pollinating plants or controlling insect & other animal populations. As well, artificial feeding can create dependency so that when the artificial feeder moves on without a replacent the birds can be left wondering where their next feed is coming from. The best form of feeding is to provide their natural habitats.
