Small and grey

Only photo - very active bird in medium dense habitat. In a mixed species flock of Brown and Striated Thornbills. Grey Fantail looks closest - from memory it may have fanned it's tail..... The brown uppertail coverts/rump area looks wrong for a GF....

(Tea tree/Eucalyptus oreades woodland adjacent to an Upland Swamp, Katoomba, NSW, approx 950m ASL).

GF for me. I have seen quite a few juveniles lately with that brown colouring.

Ahh okay thanks Rick N. I suspected it but I don't remember seeing the brown colouring before. Probably because I'm not used to seeing the back of them and just never noticed the brown.

Yes, I think a juvenile Grey Fantail, too.
