hi there my US birdo, lucky i still have my field guide of north America and to me it looks like a snow bunting. In winter the beak changes from black to orange -yellow in colour. Unless your in Alaska it could be a McKay's bunting. America has a lots of bunting and over thirty different sparrows.What part of the US are you from.
take a jacket you might just need it Brandon. visting the lower parts I guess ? Yes it great to go birding with a book in your hand all day and at night going thru what you have seen .
I took 3 months off a few years ago travelling from montana in the rockys up thru canada up to latitude 66 in a RV. IN summer of course.

Here's a photo I took of a Snow Bunting in the UK last year - a very small bird that was so approachable it was scary. You could have just about picked it up.
Um... where did you take this? I have never heard of a snow bunting! What size is it?

Oh it's just beautiful though isn't it! I love seeing birds from afar also.

I don't think McKay's Bunting... definitely Snow Bunting.
BTW, I will post about my American trip... leaving tomorrow. Lots of birdig to be done, very exciting!

I like the first bird, it almost looks as if it were a pied aviary mutation.
I have a heated vest from my motorcycling days including a spare battery, probably too late to arrange now and probably a tad large for you
