Today we went to Phillip Island, one of my favourite places to see birds. I will start to show some photos of Cape Barren Geese. Don't worry, I'm not going to post all 200 of them, only some now, and .....later? LOL
The photos will turn up soon, I hope?
The last time I rode down to Lake Alexandrina there were no Cape Barren geese to be seen. I'll be riding down that way again on Tuesday (at least that's the plan) so I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Nice shots M-L. In your first photo is that the usual colour of the head and beak or has that one been eating mulberries or maybe a good Cab Sav. I like the drops of water coming from their mouths in the last two, good stuff. I have never seen these as we don't get them up here but a nice looking Bird they are.
Regards
Shane
On Phillip Island there were CB Geese everywhere.
Do you know, why the first goose has the red colour? There was a pair of them, both dispayed the red, also on their feathers on the back. Is it their breeding colour?

They're a lovely looking bird aren't they? We saw some in a wildlife park in Taranna, Tassie
Lovely shots M-L ... i don;t think I have ever seen these either. They are a nice looking bird aren't they? Love the drinking shots :)

Thanks Adrienne, I thought you were trying to be funny just then, haha. When you said: ...drinking shots, I thought you were hinting, the red face might mean the bird had been drinking?
I'm still waiting for someone to tell me, why these two had that much red on them, because none of the others did? (Might have to wait for Owen to come home from school, he will know!)

The claret on both feathers & bill suggests there's a vegetable rather than breeding reason for the colour, most likely on land as they don't swim much. I wonder if there are any red berries in their Phillip Island habitat.
I don't know Woko, the others in a different location, (you saw the photos) look normal(?), the nose patch is green, and the birds are grey, although at closer inspection , they all have a red tinge. When we go next time, I'll have a look if there are any berries.
. Have a look tomorrow, when you go on your bike ride, hope you have some fun!? (Are you dressing up as a "Lycra Bird? LOL)
Thanks for your answer.

Yes, Araminta, I'll be in full lycra regalia. I should scare off any Cape Barren Geese - & anything else for that matter.
Stunning pics. Amazing birds.
