I knew it was going to be hard to look forward to our local Pelagic trips after my trip to Tasmania. Nothing new for me but luckily I'm more interested in the photography side of birding so every trip offers oppertunities to get better shots.
The Gold Coast as we saw it heading out to the continental shelf at 06:30 yesterday morning, all aboard wondering what the day will bring. Great feeling!
At this time of year these Australasian Gannets are going to be regular visitors but have no interest in the berley. Live food only for these guys!
Mill pond like conditions at the time of these shots. I wouldn't like to be out there to-day though...
Every Pelagic trip has a star attraction and this trip was no exception and this trip it was a Black-Browed Albatross.
A regular on these trips but a really hard bird to photograph unless conditions are good. Wilson's Storm-Petrel.
By far the most common species of this trip were the Providence Petrels. Maybe 100+?
Some Humpbacks passing through on our way home. Great time of the year to see up to 20,000 giants of the deep would pass along the coast in the next few months — a far cry from the days when the magnificent beasts were almost wiped out by whaling.
A great day out and a great place to live!
Great set Reflex!

Magic range of shots John and that GC skyline is a beauty.
I think the second Black-browed Albatross is my fave.
Thanks Rick. I must admit I am really pleased with the shot of the Gold Coast. I have started to take an interest in landscape photography. Not sure if that is a good thing...........

Great shots Reflex! I love the eye contact in the first Black-Browed Albatross photo. Great flight shots too.
It's NOT!! Resist at all costs :-)
