Crescent Head (between Coffs harbour & Port Macquarie): We've still got a lot of water that hasn't drained since the flooding a few months ago so we have very good populations of water birds staying on. The melaleuca floodplains are still under water. The oval is very boggy & frog populations are very high. When I was out walking yesterday there were several birds cruising the oval as usual, but I saw a large black & white long-legged bird that only seems to match the Black-necked Stork, as unlikely as that seems. Has anyone heard any sightings of Storks recently, and this far south? Of course, I didn't have a camera with me; when will I learn to not leave home without it?
I just did a search on Eremaea.com and there have been sightings in May as far south as Tuggerah. Do a search on the home page under Most Recent Sightings.
