Strzelecki Track

Spent a couple of days last week along the Strzelecki Track, North of Lyndhurst, up to Montecollina Bore. Though very hot and bad flies (as usual :-) saw some wonderful birds and added nine new species to my list.

Budgerigar, Cockatiel, Orange Chat, Australian Pratincole, Chirruping Wedgebill, Diamond Dove,

White-breasted Woodswallow, Red-backed Kingfisher and Black-breasted Buzzard.

Smaller grasswrens and Chestnut-breasted Whitethroat were elusive but plenty of Zebra finches and a couple of Blue-winged Parrots as well. Without much time to search for Grasswrens and Whitethroats will maybe return at Xmas for a better look and a nicer photo of the Pratincole.

Great collection Rick and congratulations on spelling "Strzelecki". I hadn't even heard of some of those species. What is your bird list up to now?

Thanks all, was a great couple of days but flies really did drive me crazy at times.

John, 263 photographed, long way to catch Peter, Shorty and many others :-)

Rick, then you did well to have no black fuzzy blob in the photos.  It always suprises me how often a fly makes it into the pic when they are about.  Nice shots, thanks

Well done Rick, there are 3 there that would give me a tick. The way you are going you will catch me very soon.

This year i have been concentrating on photographing as many species in the A.C.T. as i can in one year, up to 174 so far :)

Wow Rick, great shots. I have only seen one Black-breasted Buzzard this trip and Orange Chats have eluded us. Nothing like getting out into the middle of nowhere for some interesting birds. However, I must agree that the flies are awful followed closely by midgies!  Sue
