Spotted this morning (Sunshine Coast hinterland) were a pair of these babies. We startled them and they flew up into the trees so difficult for photos. They were on the ground in leaf litter under small shrubs including lantana. They seemed to be the size of Bar shouldered and looks as if they are just out of the nest. Currently here we have Peaceful, Bar Shouldered, Emerald, Brown Cuckoo and Wonga if this is any help.
ID help greatly appreciated. I'm thinking Bar Shouldered Babies???
I think you are correct with BS dove juvenile
One field guide i have shows the exact same markings on the head for the juvenile BS dove as in your pic. But then i noticed yours is quite white underneath but the book had a lightish brown colouring there. Looking in a different book, it does show the same white underbelly as yours.
Thanks Whistling Duck. They are here again this morning so I am hoping we will see them growing to adulthood.
