Superb Fairwren Family

The Superb Fairywrens who call my garden home for most of the year have returned, and I've let them settle in for a few weeks. But they were being adorable in the garden this afternoon, and I just couldn't help myself. smiley

I believe he's coming back into breeding colours - they 'disappeared' for about 4 months or so, after changing into non-breeding colours, but in the past couple of weeks they've been busy chasing each other around my garden. I took a walk around the neighbourhood this afternoon, and there were quite a few little SFWs hopping about in the bushes, so I'm guessing they're back in force to breed. blush

Look like they are doing an inspection tour around your property!

Great photos of those cute little birds.

Great shots of a very photogenic little bird. I've noticed our Fairy Wrens have been absent for a while.

I hope that when they do come back they like having their photograph taken.  The blue tufts on the males head remind me of the haircuts on some of the Argentinian soccer players in the FIFA world cup last nightwink. They look like they were half way through a hair-cut when the barber had a heart attack and dropped dead!

How wonderful when such adorable regulars return windshear.  I'm going to guess you had just as much fun as they did, perhaps more during the photo shoot?  Love the wistful little thinking pose of number four and the quizzical tilt of the head number five is doing.  But all so sweet and tale telling.  Hope they give you many more hours of photo and enjoyment ops!

Annie: For sure. I love the little guys, and they're just so much fun to sit and watch. The other day I was watching the older male chase a female around the garden, and the resident willie wagtail was looking on (he's a bit of a grump) and chittering noisily at them. Then they landed next to where he was sitting, and carried on their little 'game'. (birds' idea of fun I guess)

Reflex - Good luck with your SFWs. smiley I'm sure they won't mind a bit of modelling.

Hi Windshear, I have just noticed the first male in my garden, he's almost in breeding plumage. This happens now earlier and earlier every year.
