Very surprised to see these along the Great Ocean Road today. Apologies for the poor pictures but it was distant.
Shelducks with 11 ducklings in the ocean below the lookout at Bay of Martyrs... seemed a very rough place for young ducklings! There was no obvious place to shelter the young and I wondered if they had been washed out to sea with all the rain.
Long Billed Corellas were seen roosting on the side of the cliffs in same location and next lookout East.
I wonder what tomorrow will bring? Sue
Thats very interesting sue! I have never seen a shelduck so I know nothing about them but your thoery could very well be right.
Lovely shot of the corellas btw
I have seen a pair of Black Swans take their tiny sygnets out into the ocean. Didn't see how far out though. Shelducks are pretty strong birds. They would be able to judge what they are getting into? One would hope.?
