Today I've emailed the Tasmanian premier as follows:
Dear Premier
I write to say how totally delighted I am that the Tasmanian parliament has rejected the clearance of Swift Parrot habitat.
Now that I'm retired my tourist dollars are now much more likely to head towards Tasmania knowing that Swift Parrots retain their tenuous hold on existence.
Thanks for the good news, let's hope it's ongoing and not just a temporary result, I hope that their feeding grounds are also protected , both in Tasmania and on the mainland, we've already lost so many birds that used to be found permanently in nsw or used to travel here from other parts but because their feeding grounds were destroyed are no longer found in nsw or have become very rare or extinct.
For Australian birds, natives=life, exotics=death, so do them a favour and go plant some natives and save their lives.
The same applies just about everywhere, doublebar. For example, Diamond Firetails are nearly extinct now in the Mt Lofty Ranges & yet people persist in wrecking their habitat & invading what's left of their habitat with cats. Fortunately, we have a pair regularly visiting our bird bath at present.
