Great shots. Its great to see a Boobook in the day, was it alright? Awesome Baza, they aren't too common in Sydney. Was that Osprey building a nest somewhere?

Fantastic shots

Love the Frogmouth portrait and thats wonderful shot of a nest building Osprey

Interesting seeing the Boobook on the ground during the day.

Im lucky if i find an owl in a tree during the day once every 3 years or so :)

Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well

All fantastic photos - great work.

The tawny frogmouths have the look of ancient carved wooden idols (to me anyway!).  Osprey looks like its flying on that stick rather than carrying it home.

Terrific photo's dmp, looking forward to getting some tawny sibling shots in the near future as there are some nesting pairs in the area. Certainly an interesting variety of birds.

Thanks for comments all.

Tim, I should have included the story of the Boobook which I posted elsewhere: Southern Boobook. Suspected to be one of the chicks I photographed in January. It was hiding under the ramp to the castle (Noisy Minors and Butcherbirds were mobbing it). For a few minutes I was only about a metre away from it, swinging my monopod around trying to scare off the Minors. After unsuccessfully trying to escape the mobbing several times it found refuge on the walking track... close to the water, next to the baths. I sat about 3 metres away from it and watched it in a very agitated state, spinning it's head, checking anything that made any noise. Clearly not bothered by my presence, only glancing at me occasionally. After about 10 minutes it calmed down as the various birds got bored (they could not locate it) and looked ready to fall asleep in front of me. I stayed for another 20 minutes before a walker on the track appeared and it flew off. It found an even better spot, right next to the water and was there for the next 2 hours. I left it alone for around 90 minutes then went down to get some photos. This time it seemed very relaxed as I got within about 3 metres and was fully closing it's eyes for a minute or two at a time. I left it alone at about 3:30pm so it could get some quality sleep time. Magic experience.
