Tawny Frogmouths.

This is the smaller of 2 Froggies that have roosted on and off in a Jacaranda tree in our yard right in the middle of town for 12 months or more. Being smaller, I am not sure if this is the female or a young one that roosts with one parent bird. It seems quite calm and friendly as I took these photos from about 3 metres.

Brings back memories of rescues in my back yard.  Some of the little ones are very daring too soon and get themselves into trouble.  They are magnificent birds, fantastic parents, but they have a really mournful call at night.  Thank you for showing us these lovely pics.

This is an adult bird that came in for a drink on a very, very hot day.

Hi Karen and thank you for your comments. I have heard these twoFroggies making a very low gutteral call in our tree when they are resting through the day, especially when the tree is full of Magpies, Noisy Minors, Currawongs and Rosellas. As you say it is not the most pleasent call tha I have heard.
Regards Graeme
