Todays Raptors

Last Canberra weekend for petersad so off we went birding.

First stop..............the wetlandswink

Then it was off to Gundaroo and on the way got a Brown Falcon (and a wedge but not good pics)

Then after Peter dropped me off i went to the shop and on my way i got my first Australian Hobbysmiley

Elsie...... Thank you. Peter was lucky that he was back today and also commented on how dark it was. Peter thinks it is a Female that is darker than the male but i have been reading up on it and it may be a juvenile (the jury is still out).

Maybe you have only seen adult males?

Where the wetlands are there is a large corridor heading south a long way with a perminent large creek so there is plenty of food for all the raptors.

I only see the hobbys every now and thensad The raptors that I can be guaranteed to see everyday are black kites. Up here we have been seeing them in flocks of up to 200! At our local green waste tip there are so many that it's almost unbelievable! I have some photos but they aren't top quality because I was in the car as we drove pastsmiley

a busy Canberra weekend, here's the A Hobby at 9.20 this morning, I asked it to go catch a pigeon but it said it just wanted to model today

I went hunting a Nankeen Kestrel sighting today and found myself a pair of Black shoukdered Kites. No NK but a good day. :)
